Destination: Unknown adventures are epic experiences handcrafted by seasoned travel designers. The catch? You won’t know where you are going and/or what you are going to do there until 1—2 days before your departure! It takes a special kind of traveler to step out of their comfort zone, beyond the boundaries of a ‘normal’ travel experience, and into a DU adventure: An insatiable curiosity about the world; a true spirit of adventure; a passion for connecting with new people, places, cultures, ideas, and perspectives; a dedication to life-long learning and growth; and a commitment to making a positive impact in the world.
Destination: Unknown Basics
A few points to keep in mind as you begin your Destination: Unknown Journey with us:
– Most DU experiences we design range from 10–14 days long
– Most DU experiences we design range from $25–30K per couple*
– We work best with people who travel for learning and growth
– The ideal time to begin planning is 4–6+ months before departure
– We only plan DU travel experiences outside of the United States
Working alongside our partners around the world, your Travel Designer will craft a DU itinerary customized just for you.
* Note: Pricing includes all accommodations, privately guided experiences, private transfers, international and domestic flights, some meals, travel insurance, our Travel Design expertise, and on-trip Journey Management.
Level I: Journey Unknown
You will know your destination — you can pick where you go or let us pick for you — but you won’t know anything else about your itinerary, the experiences you’ll have along the way, or your accommodations until 1—2 days before your departure, when we will reveal all and walk you through your full itinerary!
Level II: Destination Unknown
The Ultimate Adventure!
You will have no idea where we are sending you or what you are going to do there until the day or two before departure. Our team will choose your destination based on a series of in-depth conversations with you and then handcraft your entire adventure: International flights, accommodations, experiences, guides, some meals, and more! 1—2 days before departure, we’ll reveal all and walk you through your detailed itinerary.
The Destination: Unknown Process
Regardless of which level of DU you choose, your trip will be carefully crafted based on in-depth personal conversations with an expert Travel Designer (as well as some forms we ask you to complete and send back to us). Here’s how the process works:

We’ll talk about why you want to do a D:U, when you can go, the types of experiences you want to have (ex: culinary-focus, adventure-focus, etc.), places you have previously traveled, places you may want to go, and more.

For Level 1, you have the option of picking your destination OR having your Travel Designer pick for you; either way, we’ll let you know where you are going well in advance of your travels. For Level 2, we’ll decide your destination for you based on our conversations, the forms you complete, and our destination knowledge.

Your Travel Designer will work collaboratively with the rest of our team here in the States as well as our partners in your destination to build an itinerary tailored to your interests, desires, and budget.

Your Travel Designer will provide you with access to our proprietary Mindful Travel Toolkit & Guide — a resource chock-full of questions, prompts, quotes, poems, articles, and activities to help you prepare for the adventure ahead and help you deepen your travel experience. We’ll also provide you with a packing list, some basic information about the kind of weather you may encounter, and — if you want — some hints about the destination you are going to!

A day or two before you embark on your adventure, we’ll hop on a Zoom call and reveal all to you! For Level 1, you will already know where you are going, so on this call, we’ll reveal your fully detailed itinerary to you! For Level 2, we’ll reveal your destination and walk you through your detailed itinerary on our call — it’s a heart-thumping experience!

You’ll get LOADS of information from us — your detailed itinerary, flight info, country information, tipping guides, links to our Mindful Travel Toolkit, and much more — that will be stored in the Vamoos app.

You’ll have the full support of our team on the ground in your destination via a WhatsApp group we will create for you. As you travel, we’ll help you deal with any unforeseen logistical challenges so that you can stay focused on having a kick-ass experience!
Not knowing your destination and/or the experiences you are going to have there, you can focus your attention more on preparing for what we call ‘The Inner Journey’ of travel: Setting intentions, practicing mindfulness, and traveling like a HERO … which is really what this is all about, anyway: Traveling Better & Living Better.
